About Us

Our Mission

A.R.C. serves the Flathead Indian Reservation, providing a sanctuary where animals heal people and people heal animals.  At A.R.C., those suffering through trauma and crisis find healing by helping rehabilitate neglected, abused, and abandoned reservation dogs.

Our Vision

ARC's vision is a Flathead Reservation where relationships between people and their animals are no longer defined by crisis and trauma but rather by kinship and healing.  We envision eventually bringing our trailblazing work to other Reservations.

Our Values

ARC recognizes the powerful bonds between people and animals as well as the challenges that Indigenous communities face due to historical trauma, racial injustice, and economic disadvantage. Our approach to work with animals represents a fundamental paradigm shift from "animal rescue" to "community healing." Our goals are to mitigate youth suicide risk, help people afflicted by various forms of trauma, and bring healing to Reservation animals. Our holistic approach acknowledges that these issues are inextricably linked. A.R.C.'s work is guided by its Cultural Sensitivity Position Statement and by its adherence to the principles of responsibility, responsiveness, and respect.

Our Programs

Reservation Canine Healing Experiment

RCHE provides rehabilitation for Reservation canines while providing animal-assisted, culturally-specific therapy and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) to children and adults.  RCHE includes summer critter camps emphasizing healing, humane education, culturally relevant knowledge, and animal skills for youth.  Beneficiaries include youth at risk of suicide, domestic abuse victims, and those dealing with various forms of trauma.

Paws on the Ground

POG is a grassroots program that aims to empower underserved communities, develop emergency response capacity, and build trust with those we serve.   POG recruits community liaisons and volunteers to help identify local residents and animals in crisis and connect them  to ARC's support services.

Flathead Reservation Spay/Neuter Taskforce

Our Taskforce's primary focus is to carry out a Trap and Release (T&R) program with bimonthly spay/neuter clinics for community cats on the Flathead Reservation while offering additional low-income veterinary support on the Flathead Reservation.  The Taskforce also serves ARC's animals.

Our Veterinary Partners

Missoula Veterinary Clinic

We are thrilled and immensely grateful that Missoula Vet Clinic is now offering a complimentary ADOPTION EXAM for every ARC dog that goes to its new home!  We will be issuing certificates with each adoption beginning January 1, 2024.  MVC has also joined us in our efforts to reduce the Reservation pet population, offering four donated surgeries monthly.

Southshore Veterinary Services

Dr. Uli Rodrigues and her veterinary partner Dr. Deb Skow have been extraordinary friends through thick and thin.  They've spayed and neutered thousands of animals in our communities over the years and have shown great generosity of time and spirit, often up late into the evening helping mitigate crises and emergencies.  They have consist

They have consistently offered the most generous discounts for local rescues and shelters, understanding the value nonprofits bring to our communities.

Aloha Veterinary Services

Since opening in 2023, Aloha Services in Polson has been a steadfast, passionate, and generous partner in our mission to help reduce trauma on the Reservation.  Their tireless work and their dedication to be available when no one else is have been hugely appreciated.  They have done many spay and neuter surgeries for ARC and community ani

Since opening in 2023, Aloha Services in Polson has been a steadfast, passionate, and generous partner in our mission to help reduce trauma on the Reservation.  Their tireless work and their dedication to be available when no one else is have been hugely appreciated.  They have done many spay and neuter surgeries for ARC and community animals at discount rates.  Their evening and weekend hours are a valued service.

Whitefish Animal Hospital

Whitefish Animal Hospital provides the highest quality veterinary care and, like ARC, promotes the importance of the human animal bond.  The WAH community has been extraordinarily generous to ARC, offering free surgeries for both spay/neuter and emergency care.  Many of the staff are close friends who have adopted our Reservation dogs into their families!

Fox Hollow Animal Project in Corvallis, MT

Fox Hollow Animal Project in Corvallis, MT

Fox Hollow is a nonprofit veterinary practice dedicated to providing spay or neuter services as a non-lethal solution to the homeless, abandoned, and feral animal population.  Dr. Applebury and his wife Jesse have been long-time selfless advocates for animals and have stepped up so many times, free-of-charge, when we have turned to them for help.

Noah's Ark

Fox Hollow Animal Project in Corvallis, MT

Dr. Shura Bugreeff and her private veterinary service in Stevensville is not open to the general public but has been incredible in offering at-cost mini clinics to help ARC keep up with the spay/neuter needs of our Reservation communities.  Dr. Shura's expertise and passion for making a difference is an inspiration.
